How to extend the life of your refrigerator: 5 working tips

A refrigerator is not an expensive purchase. That’s why we all want this indispensable appliance to last as long as possible. You can extend its life up to 20 years by following some simple tips.

Have you recently purchased a refrigerator and would like it to stay with you longer? Or your household helper has been with you for a long time, but you still don’t want to part with it? There are a few simple tips, constantly following which you can prolong the life of any refrigerator.

clean dust from the condenser

You probably know you should do it yourself, but you’ve been putting it off until the last minute. Take a look at your refrigerator’s condenser right now. You might be amazed at how much dust has already accumulated on it.

The condenser needs to be cleaned on time. It performs an important heat exchange function and protects the compressor from overheating.

Timely cleaning of the condenser helps to prolong the life of the refrigerator for 10, 15, and sometimes even 20 years. This is what gives the simplest action, which can be performed just once or twice a year (more often if you wish).

In old refrigerators, the condenser is located at the back, while in new refrigerators it is located at the bottom. In the latter case, you won’t have much trouble cleaning it while you’re mopping the kitchen floor. Just remove the corresponding panel. To clean the condenser located on the back of the refrigerator, you will have to move it away from the wall.

Before cleaning the condenser, it is best to turn off the refrigerator. Carefully use a vacuum cleaner or a special brush to avoid damage.

You can use both. The brush will help remove embedded dirt. Don’t forget to clean the fan as well.

Fill the refrigerator correctly

The more contents in the refrigerator, the less it is too cold. There is no need to fill the refrigerator to capacity. This will prevent every food item you keep in it from cooling efficiently. Try to distribute the contents evenly throughout the refrigerator.

Find the right place for the refrigerator

You should do this as soon as you buy the refrigerator, but it’s not too late to move it later. Do not push the refrigerator into tight recesses to prevent air circulation.

Also remember that the refrigerator should not be located near heating appliances or in direct sunlight. It should not be placed on a heated floor. Either do not insulate the kitchen floor at all or leave the area for the refrigerator uncovered.

Keep the refrigerator door seal clean

It is an obvious fact that if the seal works well, cold air will stay inside the refrigerator and warm air will not enter it.The seal can be cleaned with soap and water. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents.

To make the seal last longer, open the refrigerator door correctly. To do this, use only the door handle or a special button. Crushing the seal with your fingers will damage it.

To check the tightness of the seal, take a piece of paper and press it while closing the refrigerator door. If it falls out or is easily removed, the seal is obviously worn out and it is time to replace it.

Organize the food in the refrigerator correctly

We often don’t pay much attention to the arrangement of food in the refrigerator, and for good reason. It’s not for nothing that the instructions have recommendations on what is the best place to store certain foods.

Correct placement will not only help you to find the necessary product easily and not to keep the door open for too long (which, of course, spoils the refrigerator). The temperature is not the same in different zones of the refrigerator, so the recommendations should be followed in order not to overload the appliance.

What do you do to prolong the life of your refrigerator?
